Hungarian Chicken Paprikash (Paprikás Csirke)
Ingredients:
8 chicken pieces (thighs or drumsticks)
2 tbsp vegetable oil
2 large onions, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp Hungarian sweet paprika
1 tsp hot paprika (optional)
2 tomatoes, diced
1 red bell pepper, chopped
1 cup chicken broth
200 ml sour cream
1 tbsp flour
Salt and black pepper to taste
Instructions:
Heat the oil in a large pan and sauté the onions until golden.
Add the garlic and cook for 1 minute.
Remove the pan from the heat and stir in the paprika.
Add the tomatoes and bell pepper, then cook for 5 minutes.
Place the chicken pieces in the pan, season with salt and pepper, and pour in the chicken broth.
Cover and simmer over low heat for 40–45 minutes until the chicken is tender.
Mix the sour cream with the flour in a bowl.
Stir a few spoonfuls of the hot sauce into the sour cream mixture, then return it to the pan.
Cook for another 5 minutes without boiling.
Serve hot with noodles, rice, or crusty bread.
