Hungarian Walnut Chocolate Layer Cake
Ingredients
For the layers:
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 150 g sugar
- 100 g butter
- 2 eggs
- 3 tbsp honey
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 3 tbsp milk
For the walnut filling:
- 250 g ground walnuts
- 200 g sugar
- 250 ml milk
- 150 g butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the chocolate topping:
- 150 g dark chocolate
- 50 g butter
Instructions
- Mix the flour, sugar, butter, eggs, honey, baking soda, and milk to form a soft dough.
- Divide the dough into 5–6 equal portions. Roll each portion into a very thin rectangle.
- Bake each sheet at 180°C (350°F) for about 7–9 minutes, until lightly golden. Do not overbake.
- For the filling, heat the milk and sugar. Stir in the ground walnuts and cook for a few minutes. Let cool.
- Beat the butter until creamy, then gradually mix it into the cooled walnut mixture.
- Place one baked layer on a serving tray and spread with walnut cream. Repeat until all layers are stacked.
- Melt the chocolate with the butter and spread it evenly over the top.
- Refrigerate for at least 8 hours, preferably overnight, so the layers become soft and tender.
- Cut into small rectangular pieces and serve.
