Hungarian Layered Potatoes (Rakott Krumpli)
Ingredients
1 kg (2.2 lb) potatoes
5 eggs
250 g (9 oz) Hungarian smoked sausage, sliced
300 g (10 oz) sour cream
50 g (2 oz) butter
100 g (3.5 oz) grated cheese, optional
Salt, to taste
Black pepper, to taste
1 teaspoon paprika
Instructions
Cook the potatoes:
Boil the potatoes with their skins until tender. Let them cool, peel them, and slice into thin rounds.
Cook the eggs:
Hard-boil the eggs for about 9–10 minutes. Cool, peel, and slice.
Prepare the dish:
Grease a baking dish with butter. Arrange a layer of potatoes, then sliced eggs and sausage.
Add sour cream:
Season lightly with salt, pepper, and paprika, then spread some sour cream over the layer.
Repeat:
Continue layering potatoes, eggs, sausage, and sour cream until everything is used. Finish with a generous layer of sour cream and sprinkle with grated cheese if desired.
Bake:
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 35–45 minutes, until golden and bubbling on top.
Serve:
Let it rest for 5–10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with extra sour cream on the side.
